A customer in Hubbard, Ohio had dampness in his basement, but could not figure out where it was coming from. There was no bowing to his foundation wall, so he was utterly confused. He was under the impression that the only way for water to be coming into his home was from a bowing wall, but our Basement Professionals were able to inform him otherwise.
Unwanted water can enter the basement from a crack in the foundation wall, bowing, or other by other means. In this case, there was in fact no bowing to the wall, but there was a small horizontal crack in the wall.
The crack was created because the soil was pushing against the exterior of the wall. There was a small leakage coming from the horizontal crack and this was what was creating the damp feeling in the basement.
Our team was able to recommend installing a drain in the basement that would lead to the sump pump that was already present in this area. Along with the drain, we also were able to attach CarbonArmor® Straps to the wall. These straps will prevent any further cracking from happening. They are made of strong steel material to ensure there will not be any more movement of the wall and as a result, no more cracking.
This homeowner was very please with the service he received in his Hubbard, Ohio home. He is no longer experiencing the damp feeling in his basement and there is no mold growth or mildew stench. To get a free estimate, contact The Basement Guys today.
