Ah, spring. It is a season that brings warmer weather, beautiful flowers, and the start of baseball, but it can also bring homeowners headaches because of flooded basements.
Spring rainfall combined with snowmelt saturates the ground, causing the soil to become unstable and directly impact the foundation of your home. Below are four tips to avoid basement flooding this spring.
Look around your yard
Are there any puddles or standing water? If water is near the foundation, one of our drainage systems can be installed to prevent the water from reaching the basement. Also, make sure the green space around your home slopes away from your foundation.
Check your gutters
Make sure they are not clogged, and the downspouts are facing away from the foundation to direct water away from your home.
Inspect for foundation cracks
The soil around your foundation is filled with water. Even the smallest crack will allow that water to seep into your basement. Our FlexiSpan® system can be installed to stop any leakages and prevent cracks from growing larger.
Inspect your sump pump
Regularly check your sump pump to ensure it is working properly. Consider buying a backup battery option, such as our UltraSump® Battery Backup System.
