Repairing a Cracked Foundation in Pittsburgh, PA
Cracks in a basement foundation should always be taken seriously. While cracking due to concrete shrinkage or other benign factors are totally normal and no real cause for alarm, other kinds of foundation cracks are signs of much more severe damage. Stair step cracks, which typically occur along the mortar joints in between bricks, blocks or masonry, are a telltale sign of foundation settlement. One Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania homeowner found this out the hard way, and called in The Basement Guys® to assess the damage and repair the space.
A foundation support crew came to the home and evaluated the situation. We found that heavy expanding soil beyond the home had put the wall under tremendous pressure as it settled, leading to these cracks. To salvage the wall and prevent further structural damage, we needed a way to brace the wall against this pressure and push it back into place.
The CarbonArmor® carbon fiber wall support system was the ideal solution. Lightweight straps of carbon fiber were placed vertically along the wall and fastened to the joists at the ceiling. Once in place, we tightened the braces to fit as snug as possible against the wall and attempt to push back against the settling soil. The straps were then sealed in place with a powerful epoxy resin to ensure lasting durability and support.
The CarbonArmor® system was able to restore this cracked foundation wall and save the home from potential damage down the road. To learn more about the rest of our foundation support products and services, call The Basement Guys® today for a free no-obligation estimate.
